Historically Black Colleges and Universities
All of the nation’s more than 100 HBCUs share the belief that everyone deserves access to a quality education, and for more than 150 years, HBCUs have successfully educated students of color. Controlled comparisons prove that HBCUs outperform non-HBCU institutions in retaining and graduating black students, after accounting for the socioeconomic status and academic preparation of enrolled students. HBCUs are open to all students and offer inclusivity and a supportive environment for students of all backgrounds and circumstances.
